Automated truck terminal gives a boost to global Petro-Chem company’s dispatch performance
Overview
Top global petrochemical company. Our client supplies a wide range of petrochemical products naming a few – chemical solvents, polymers, lower olefins, ethylene glycols, etc., for industrial customers. It deals in producing natural gas, plastic and rubber products.
Challenges
The major problem faced by our client was the management of terminal and dispatch management. These issues hampered the business growth and smooth functioning of operations leading to delay in meeting the deadlines and low sales turnover.
Due to the lack of proper maintenance of real time entry and exit time of trucks, they gained a back seat in profit generation. The manual system of registering the entry and exit time of trucks was tedious, tiresome and caused manual errors. There was a desperate need for the upkeep of trucks and proper dispatch management system.
In a nutshell, the objective was to reduce the truck time and avoid manual tracks of tracking the dispatch and parking of trucks. There was a strong desire for a single screen approach to have an eagle eye on parking and dispatch of trucks.
Solutions
Providentia understood the need and requirements of the client and partnered with a SAP enabled truck terminal system.
Our solution aligned with the needs provided the petrochemical company with a controlled dispatch management system and a single monitor screen to track the moving of the trucks – both entry and exit. The monitor had an inbuilt tracking system of detecting the manual errors made while registering the records by the company’s guards.
The screen was enabled to the respective authorities on their mobile phones and laptops thus making the screen portable. Real time integration of SAP was used to track the vehicle number and some other details were automatically displayed on the screens due to the automatic number plate recognition.
Optical character recognition (OCR) was incorporated to further facilitate the automatic truck recognition processing system. The mobile also displayed the route of the trucks and the checkpoints to avoid any sort of delay.
Impact
Due to the single monitor screen approach, the company and its employees were successfully in tracking the day-to-day activities regarding the movement of trucks – in and out. The number plate recognition system allowed them to keep close eye at dispatch of trucks and avoid manual errors.
